Austria Tourism’s responsibilities include market research, brand management, innovation, marketing, networking and information provision. Its mission is to inspire worldwide enthusiasm for vacations in Austria and to provide benefits for the tourism industry in the country.

Its activities focus on three key geographical areas: Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe as well as Overseas. Austria Tourism operates a global network of 19 offices, covering 31 inbound markets and serving as local contacts for media and travel industry partners.

The portal www.austria.info acts as guest information point and is available in 20 languages.

Strategy of Austria Tourism

The strategy is based on three pillars:

  • Communication: Austria Tourism inspires enthusiasm for vacations in Austria by visualizing the high quality of the Austrian offer in the markets with the highest potential.
  • Cooperation: Austria Tourism supports tourism organisations at all levels and businesses by bundling content and resources and providing market knowledge, market access and networking platforms.
  • Innovation: Austria Tourism accompanies the sector in its digital and green transformation and is developing a national data and innovation platform.

In 2026, Austria Tourism is funded with EUR 30 million by the Federal Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism and EUR 8 million by the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber.

Brand management is one of Austria Tourism´s core responsibilities. In 2023, Austria Tourism launched its new brand identity, which has been introduced across eleven European countries. The new brand focuses on what makes Austria truly unique: its people, their lifestyle and mindset, and their “joie de vivre” – the conscious appreciation of life and the distinctive sense of well-being that Austrians describe as "Lebensgefühl".

Besides advertising activities, Austria Tourism supports the Austrian tourism industry in its digital and sustainable transformation through integrated, data-driven innovations. The aim is to develop a platform-based tourism ecosystem that encourages collaboration and fosters a culture of continuous learning. In addition, Austria Tourism operates national data and innovation platforms and organizes several major events in cooperation with partners, including the “Austrian Tourism Day”, the “Sustainable Tourism in Austria Summit”, and the “AI Enabling Day“.

For many years, Austria Tourism´s T-MONA online guest survey has provided valuable insights on guests in Austria. According to the latest results (November 2024-October 2025), most guests travel to Austria by car (74%), followed by train (13%) and plane (8%). Holidays are mostly spent as a couple (37%) or as a family with kids aged 6-13 (14%). On average, they spend EUR 214 per person per night (excluding transport costs). Overall satisfaction is rated at 1.6 out of 6 (1 being the highest), while the average recommendation score reaches 9.3 out of 10, indicating a high level of guests enjoy their holidays in Austria.
