Together for Quiet Nights – Co-Creation for Urban Quality of Life
Date: 12.08.2025
Focus Topic: Digitalization of SMEs and Industrial Processes
In two co-creation workshops, the Vienna Business Agency and the Vienna Club Commission worked with experts, public authorities, and club operators to develop innovative approaches for reducing nighttime noise pollution. The goal was to find solutions that take into account the concerns of residents as well as the needs of club culture.
In the first workshop, it became clear that while technical solutions for noise reduction already exist, there is a lack of structural support. This led to the idea of establishing a municipal Noise Protection Fund, which will in the future be managed by the Vienna Club Commission. The second workshop focused on designing an efficient customer journey for funding applications. Processes, stakeholders, planning tools, and allocation criteria were defined.
Within the EU project Open Source Innovation Hubs (OSIH), open technologies are specifically promoted, which is why digital approaches were also discussed. A highlight was the presentation of a FIWARE-based solution – an open-source platform already used in European cities to intelligently measure and manage urban challenges. It enables real-time, data-driven analysis to identify hotspots, implement targeted measures, and develop long-term, evidence-based noise policies.
This created a foundation on which Vienna can become quieter, fairer, and more livable – for clubs, guests, and residents alike.
