TINAA – Timber Innovation Network Alpe Adria: Endowed Professorship for Innovative and Sustainable Timber Construction in Carinthia
Date: 17.09.2025
Focus topic: Promotion of green technologies and sustainable materials
With the establishment of an endowed professorship for innovative and sustainable timber construction at FH Kärnten, TINAA — together with leading companies in the industry, including Hasslacher, Theurl, Weissenseer, Griffner and KLH — has set a major milestone. The aim is to closely link research, teaching, and practice in timber construction and to strengthen the region’s innovative capacity in the long term.
Under the leadership of Richard Woschitz, key future topics such as circular economy, serial construction methods, and affordable housing are being addressed. Initial projects, such as a modular grid model for social housing, already demonstrate the great potential of intelligently planned timber construction.
The professorship is a flagship project for Carinthia and the entire Alpe-Adria region. It gives companies access to the latest scientific insights, strengthens the training of highly qualified specialists, and enhances the international visibility of the regional timber industry.
In the medium term, the professorship will evolve into a Josef Ressel Center and a dedicated degree program for timber construction engineering — a specialization that currently exists in Central Europe only in Switzerland. Through close cooperation between the sponsors and FH Kärnten, this initiative represents a unique cluster success, significantly advancing Carinthia's position as a hub for timber construction.
