With the project “Anschlussbahn Mellach”, a unique site for the demonstration and testing of rail vehicles and components is being created. The initiative, launched by the ACstyria Mobility Cluster, is being implemented in cooperation with the companies PJ Messtechnik and Boom Software, supported by Steiermarkbahn and the energy company Verbund.

The project sustainably reuses existing infrastructure and makes a significant contribution to developing innovative test and research environments in the railway sector. It is considered a flagship project for sustainable infrastructure use and demonstrates what is possible when indus-try, research, and operators work together on solutions. In this context, ACstyria brings together the expertise of its network partners and showcases how successful cooperation works in Styria’s industrial landscape.

In the long term, the project offers potential for expansion into the Rail Campus Styria / Rail LAB – a research and development center for rail transport. The concept is scalable and can serve as a model for the numerous unused industrial railway sidings in Austria.
